Arts jobs plentiful in Seattle; but state funding lags behind
In a study of arts-related business and employees who work in creative fields in the nation's 50 largest cities, Seattle ranks at or near the top in multiple categories. Seattle ranks No. 1 nationally in arts-related businesses per capita, according to an Americans for the Arts study. When comparing employees per capita Seattle is No. 3 behind Atlanta and San Francisco. Read more

Gregoire hoping for help from the other Washington
In a recent speech at the Rotary Club of Seattle Governor Christine Gregoire called upon the federal government
to provide economic stimulus to regional infrastructure. In calling for something similar to a modern New Deal, Gregoire said: "We need a stimulus package that generates pay checks, not a single check," Gregoire said. "We need a stimulus package that rebuilds our creaking infrastructure
and makes our economy stronger." The governor referenced 156 water and sewer projects worth more than $350 million and 29 statewide transportation projects that are projected to cost $75 million. Read more
