Here's something for Father's Day
May 20, 2008
Sports broadcaster and Dancing with the Stars 'star' Kenny Mayne is from Kent, Washington. He was a local newsman in the 80's. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Connecticut. He works for ESPN. And he has written a book.
It's an entertaining read. Funny, irreverent, self-deprecating, and family oriented. It is a glimpse of a father who adores his wife and two daughters; a son, brother, uncle and cousin who holds his whole family close; a man whose friends, from childhood on, remain close.
We saw that first hand in a packed room in the basement of the Elliot Bay Book Store (Seattle) where his new book "An Incomplete & Inaccurate History of Sports" sold out to a packed crowd. He spoke and read for an hour and made everyone laugh, a lot.
The book is not about sports, really. It is a memoir about life. It is a walk through memory lane or parents whose kids played whiffle ball in the back yard dreaming of a career in professional sports; whose kids had a basketball hoop taped to every door jam so socks and sponge balls could be tossed through; whose children sat in center field waiting for the ball to come their way; for a sister whose brothers bounced a basketball incessantly. To parents who just enjoy being with their kids. To Kenny Mayne a sport can be anything from rock throwing to hockey.
We think this is a quick, entertaining read and an ideal Father's Day gift!
